Practice areas

Family law

A considered approach to family matters, with respect for the personal dimension of each discussion.

When a discussion can help

A family law matter has both legal and personal dimensions. The initial discussion aims to clarify the circumstances, areas of agreement or disagreement and your objectives. Relevant documents and any ongoing proceedings help prepare the review.

What to prepare for the first conversation

  • Documents relevant to the family circumstances described
  • Agreements, correspondence or documents from existing proceedings
  • Questions you want to clarify and any known dates or deadlines

In your initial enquiry, mention the subject and any known dates or deadlines. Documents can be shared later through arrangements agreed directly with the attorney.

How much personal detail should I include in my first enquiry?

Start with a short overview and the subject on which you need assistance. There is no need to include children’s documents or other sensitive information in the first message; these can be discussed directly with the attorney.
